INFORMATION
The second of two very important public meetings will be held this coming Wednesday--the acoustical noise consultancy hired by ROAR to provide a balanced viewpoint to the one offered by Arshot, Noise Consultancy, will present its findings to the public.
Hosted by the Southwest Area Commission, this meeting will likely be the only time the public will hear directly from the acoustical consultant who performed this noise study.
The meeting will be held at:
New Horizon United Methodist Church
1665 Harrisburg Pike
Columbus, Ohio 43223
Wednesday, May 19th, 7:00-9:00 PM
Be sure to arrive early. Space is limited and we expect an overflow crowd. We strongly urge you to attend this meeting and show your support.
Additional background:
On March 16, 2010 all three Franklin County Commissioners voted to give the developer a second extension on his purchase contract. He has a short window of time to apply for a zoning variance.
ROAR has been fighting this issue for over two years. We strongly oppose turning Cooper Stadium into a motorsports speedway because:
- There are no other high-speed auto race tracks in any high-density residential neighborhood in the country, with the exception of the Indianapolis Speedway. However, even in this case, the city of Speedway, Indiana was built around the race track after it was built. The residents chose to live there.
- The 35-foot noise wall proposed by the developer has never been built, and thus, never tested in the real world. It is merely a concept that has only been demonstrated in computer modeling. We do not want to be the developer's guinea pigs...too much at stake!
- The developer claims there will be less than 20 races a year. However, the track will likely be utilized daily for practice runs, corporate ride-alongs, exhibition rides and special events.
- The developer's noise study indicates NASCAR and IndyCar vehicles will not be eligible to race unless special permits are granted by the city on an event-specific basis. How many of these special events are planned?
We hope you will attend both of this all-important meeting.
